Most groups our size run on rented software: a subscription TMS, a generic CRM bent out of shape, a payroll bureau, an applicant tracker, and per-token bills for every AI call. BDS Corp went the other way. Every operational system in the group — from freight dispatch to payroll — was designed, built and is run by our own engineering team in Lahore. This post explains the reasoning, using the platforms themselves as the argument.
The buy problem: generic software, specific business
Off-the-shelf tools model an average business, and none of our businesses are average. A generic CRM has "deals"; a freight brokerage has lanes, shippers and call outcomes. A payroll bureau assumes day shifts; a 24/7 operation has overnight shifts that must be treated as one business night. Every mismatch becomes either a workaround someone maintains forever, or a rule the business quietly stops enforcing. Building in-house means the software encodes the actual operating rules — and when a rule changes, the platform changes that week.

What the freight side runs on
The transport management system behind Badass Logistics' freight and heavy haul operation tracks quotes, loads, carriers, customers and facilities on one board, with margin, AR/AP and settlements carried per load from booking through invoice. Alongside it sits a cold-sales CRM built on a freight data model — lanes, shippers and opportunities rather than generic pipelines — with call outcomes, pipeline stages, click-to-call and fair lead distribution across the sales floor.

What the media side runs on
The media companies live and die by follow-up, so we built AI email agents to do it properly. The agents are label-gated — they only touch threads a human has explicitly handed them — and thread-aware, reading the full history before writing the next touch in the account owner's own voice. They stop the moment a prospect replies, and they never send the same touch twice. The outreach they support runs through DNA PR's publicist team and Publisive Media's placement desk, both of which also get branded client portals for onboarding and reporting.
What the group itself runs on
Attendance and payroll start at a fingerprint clock. The platform pairs raw punches into arrivals, breaks and checkouts, treats overnight shifts as a single business night, pays breaks up to an hour, and flags late arrivals and over-breaks — it never guesses a missing punch. Employee records, salary structures, generated offer letters and salary slips sit in the same system, and the hiring suite runs the timed assessment every applicant takes, from typing test through interview pipeline to onboarding analytics.

The quiet advantage: self-hosted inference
The AI agents above would be uneconomical on metered APIs — follow-up agents read entire mail threads many times a day. So the group runs its own always-on GPU box serving open models over a private tunnel. The marginal cost of an AI call is zero, which changes what gets automated: anything worth doing once is worth letting an agent do continuously.
